No carton should be so large that it will obstruct the view when carried or be over 23kg (50lbs) when packed.
Do not over fill or under fill cartons; this practice increases the risk of damage. Tops must close flat and be sealed with tape.
Pack heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top. Pack articles snugly so they will not shift.
Cushion every carton with clean, crushed paper-on the bottom, between layers, at the top and in any empty spaces between articles.
Pack small articles in small boxes and nest them into a large box.
Wrap fabrics and china in clean newsprint
Wrap all items separately to protect fine surfaces and protrusions from damage.
Moving Day Tips:
Arrange to be home when the moving crew arrives or assign someone (in writing) to direct the crew. Accompany the Van Operator through the house as items are tagged with an identifying number. These numbers will appear on your inventory list. Be sure to point out to the Van Operator any items that are not to be loaded.
Advise the Van Operator of items that you require immediately upon arrival at destination. These items will be loaded last and unloaded first.
Sign the inventory and keep your copy with your other moving related documents.
Review the Bill of Lading to ensure both the Declared Valuation and your new destination address are accurate.
Provide the Van Operator with your en-route contact numbers.
Accompany the Van Operator on a final tour of the house to ensure that all items have been loaded. Check all closets, cupboards and storage areas.
