Course Descriptions


At CWCC we offer two programs:



1/ OBEDIENCE TRAINER/KENNEL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM


This is an intensive three week program (140 class hours).
Upon completion, the successful applicant will be awarded a certified "Professional Obedience Trainer" certificate and will possess the knowledge and skills to successfully train dogs in all levels of obedience or to operate a kennel. 

Total cost is $2200.00.

  • Basic Obedience
    This course encompasses detailed obedience training theory and its practical application.  
    The six personalities of dogs will be explored in depth; including the possible causes, the inherited and environmental factors, as well as ways to modity training techniques to suit each personality. 
    Proper choice and use of training equipment will be discussed and practised. 
    Training of every dog, including the 'out of control' or aggressive dog, will be explained and demonstrated. 
    Breed identification and related tendencies is also included in this course.
      

  • Customer Relations 
    This course offers instruction in giving private and group lessons.  Students will participate in the ongoing lessons offered at our training centre. Dealing firmly and fairly with your client as well as his dog will be explained and demonstrated.  Professional ethics regarding your clients, your competition, your business associates,
    and your community will be discussed 

     



     
  • Advanced Obedience
    The advanced obedience course continues the training with use of hand signals both on and off lead. Students will learn how to maintain control when working off lead through practial application. Various ways to teach retrieval will be explored with the main focus on the 'soft mouth approach'.




  • Utility
    Utility is the ground work for dogs intended for police work or support for the handicapped.  Instruction will be given in proper use of obstacles, with practical application.  Also included will be discussion of the psychological benefit to dogs.  This course also covers the higher levels of obedience training, such as scent discrimination and directed jumping.

  • Kennel Management 
    This course covers all aspects of managing a kennel beginning with choosing a location, construction, governing agencies, and environmental requirements.  Students will have hands-on experience in the dog and cat boarding kennel that operates in conjuntion with our training centre. Cleaning and feeding practices, office procedures, and admittance policies will be discussed. 
  • Temperament
    Various temperament tests will be discussed as to their benefit in helping choose puppies for specific purposes, such as police work, search and rescue, bombs, or family pets.  Practical applicaiton in evaluating temperaments in mature dogs will assist the student greatly in this career.
     

  • Dog Care            
    Care of the dog is the basis of this course which encompasses anatomy, nutrition, diseases, common parasites, genetic and environmental problems, as well as grooming.


       


2/ MASTER TRAINER PROGRAM

The Obedience Trainer/Kennel Management program is a pre-requisite for this program which continues with another three weeks (140 class hours) for a total of six intensive weeks.
Upon completion, the successful applicant will be awarded a certified "Master Trainer" certificate and will have the knowledge and skills to successfully train any dog to any level of service.

Total cost for this three week program is $2200.00.

  • Behavioral Problems
    Canine behavioral problems will be discussed to provide understanding of causes whether they are inherited, environmental, or other.  Various methods of overcoming these problems will be presented.  Students will be introduced to creative problem solving and to awareness that there will be various degrees of success in some cases.

       

  • Personal Protection
    Aggression training in dogs begins with Personal Protection. The most important factor in aggression training, that of canine suitability and selection, will be explored.  The definition of and expectations for the Personal Protection dog will be discussed.  Discussion, demonstration, and practical application of the steps involved in training these dogs will occur in this course.

  • Attack Dog
    Aggression training continues to the ulitmate goal of Attack dog.
    Selection and use of proper equipment as well as methods of training canines to detect and respond to critical points in conflicts will be explored. The art of agitation to build aggression and the methods to gain the necessary off-lead control will be discussed and demonstrated, with practical application by the student.
     

  • Support Dog
    This course covers dog suitablity and selection in this unique area of service to the human.
    Various methods of assistance to whatever conditions
    or challenges are presented will be discussed with practical application.  Creative applications will be explored as well as the added benefit of trick training.


  • Police K-9 Training
    Drug detection and searches will be discussed and demonstrated with practical application by the student.  Understanding the particular needs of law enforcement officers regarding their canine partner's performance during suspect transport or crowd control willl be
    covered, as well as the necessary physical training.
     

   

  • Tracking
    Scenting and tracking for police work or search and rescue is the focus of this course. 
    Some of the topics covered will be: types of tracking dogs, reading the dog's indicators, surface awareness, weather influences, accelerants.
    There will be demonstrations and practical application
    in both article and man searches.

       

  • Security
    This course covers another type of aggression work, that of Security dog.  Dog suitablity and selection will be covered as well as discussions on guard and property training.

  • Business Management
    This course is an introduction to business management and covers starting a business, advertising, setting a fee schedule, understanding and dealing with your competition, and public relations.
